Netherlands

Bikes…bikes…and bikes. And oh, bikes. Many bikes…that was my first impression of the Netherlands. Besides that fact, the airport and train station of Schiphol in Amsterdam is very nice.

I first went by train to Utrecht, which is a city determined by students.

The houses and little rivers give a very scenic picture and just make you want to sit outside in summer and have a coffee in one of the Cafés.

Wherever you go, just take the bike. If you walk more than 5 minutes, it would be very weird for Dutch people. Actually, the Netherlands are very bike friendly. You have bike ways and routes nearly everywhere and riding around is comfortable. Except there is wind or rain – which can also be typical Dutch weather.

Within the Netherlands, traveling gets very nice when you go by train. The system is very well developed and the seats are quite nice. In some trains, the even have internet already – they are introducing it slowly. While going by train, you probably see a lot of agriculture and farms. What is more, there are quite some house boats. People live on boats and that is sometimes also their official address where they stay permanently and get their post delivered.

Besides the incredibly tasty fish, I got to taste some very delicious cookies – called Tutku (Turkish).  Cookies with chocolate cream. As far as I know, you don’t find them anywhere else.

Tutku is a cookie produced in Turkey. It is not Dutch.
